The trekking season in Nepal is governed by the
monsoon of rains which begins in mid-June and extends until
mid-September. Thus October through May are good months during
which treks should be planned.
Autumn is noted for blue skies and clear views of the mountains
and is considered to be the best season for trekking. Though
January and February are cold at higher elevations where there
is occasional snowfall. These months also offer excellent
trekking for those who are well-equipped or who remain at lower
elevations below 3000 meters.
Late February marks the beginning of spring in Nepal with
hill-side covered with wild flowers and spectacular displays of
rhododendrons above 1800 meters. Trekking in this month of
February and March are especially interesting to lovers of
flowers and nature.
April and May are quite warm at lower elevations and the
mountains are often hidden by haze and cloud. But his is the
expedition season, the best time for climbing the high peaks. At
higher elevations over 5000 meters, the mountain views are
excellent and the temperature is quite moderate, even at night.
Though it rains a lot, botanists and students of leaches will
enjoy the summer season (July to September). But the high
valleys north to the mountain ranges however, remain dry even
during the summer and are a delightful destination with pastures
full of cattle and alpine flowers. |
