The name "EVEREST" is magic in itself. MT.
Everest (8,848m.) is called "SAGARMATHA" in Nepali- "Higher than
the sky" and "CHHOMOLUNGMA means "Mother Goddess of the Earth"
in Tibet. This mountain lies north-eastern part of Kathmandu at
Solu Khumbu district.
This trekking area is very famous for the highest mountains.
There are 5 mountains (Mt. Everest 8848m, Mt. Kanchanjunga
8586m., Lhotse 8516m., Makalu 8463m., Cho Oyu 8201m) higher than
8000m. among the 14 in the world and 8 in Nepal and and in
addition numerous other peaks of lesser altitude but no less
stunning. Add to this sweeping glaciers, glacial lakes,
rhododendron forests, native flora and fauna, magnificent
mountains, forest, animal, birds, and monasteries all go to make
this region a spectacular destination.
Sherpa Culture and traditions are moved from Tibet so most of
the traditions are similar to Tibet. They follow the Buddhism;
Tengboche monastery at Tengboche is very famous in Nepal for
Buddhists.
In 1953, Tinzing Norgay Sherpa became one of the first men to
conquer Mount Everest along with Sir Admond Hillary of New
Zealand. For an extended trek and experience of village life. We
start the trek to this region at Jiri, a 10 hours drive from
Kathmandu. The quickest and easiest way to reach this region is
by flight to Lukla at 2827 m. |
