Trekking in
Dolpo and Jumla Area |
This is a very recently opened trekking region
and offers the longest trek in Nepal. You will be taken to the
most remote village where people still live as they did long
ago. Few tourists visit this fascinating area even today. This
area that is a Shangri-La in itself provides you with great
mountain views including the magnificent Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m).
This area is the dwelling place of Snow Leopard and an
enchanting trek in this region by Peter Matthiessen gave birth
to his masterpiece "SNOW LEOPARD", a spiritual novel and one of
the best sellers.
Apart from the natural sites, the area is equally rich with
flora and fauna. The upper sub-alpine steppe environment harbors
some of the rare show leopards and blue sheep.
Group can make this trek up to Shey-Foksundo (Ringmo) lake in a
normal permit but after that have to buy a special permit to go
to the Shey gompa. Which is considering upper Dolpo. A trek to
this region is recommended for groups. This trek begins with a
flight from Kathmandu to Jumla or a drive to Baglung. |
