Ghorepani means (horse water), and it does not
doubt a welcome watering stop for the teams of horse, Mules and
ponies that carry loads between Pokhara and Jomsom. The exotic
horse/mules caravans, with melodious bells that echo over great
distance and wondrous plumes and headdresses on the lead horse,
are reminiscent of ancient Tibet. Herded by Tibetan people, who
shout up and down the trail, the lend a unique touch to the
Jomsom trek.
Drive from Pokhara about an hour and start the trek at elevation
1065m with rocky trail through the River bank and forests and
past large waterfalls and swimming hole. Pony caravans,
terraced, rice fields and crossing the suspension bridge will
provide an immense experience of your lifetime. The trail climbs
very steeply on a stone staircase, the tops of Annapurna south
(7219m.) and Hiunchuli (6441m.) begin to emerge from behind the
hills. The trail crosses tow sparkling clear streams and
magnificent oak and rhododendron forests that bloom at
march/April.
