One of the classic treks in Nepal, Everest Base
Camp is the most popular route in Nepal. The trek starts after
10 hours bus drive from Kathmandu to Jiri. The trek from Jiri to
Namche Bazar takes average 7 days. A highlight of the area
around the Lamjura La is the magnificent display of pink and
lilac rhododendrons in spring. The trail passes through the
numerous settlements of different ethnic groups including Tamang,
Rai, Brahmin, Sherpas and Chhetris. Add to this sweeping
glaciers, glacial lakes, rhododendron forests, native flora and
fauna, magnificent mountains, forest, animal, birds, and
monasteries all go to make this region a spectacular
destination.
For acclimatization reason we spend two nights in Namche Bazar.
Easier options for passing the acclimatization day can be found
visiting around the monastery or side villages. Moving on from
Namche Bazar the trail follows the valley of the Imja Khola with
some spectacular views of the mountains including Thamserku,
Kantega and And Ama Dablam and, dominating the skyline ahead,
Everest and Lhotse. Gorak shep has few basic teahouse we make
our last overnight before undertaking the final leg of the trek
up the glacier to Everest Base Camp. Above Gorak shep rises the
well-known land mark of Kalapattar. A climb of two or three
hours will reward the trekker with a marvelous vista. Barely
eight kilometers to the east is the summit of Everest and just
to the north is Pumori, arguably one of the most beautiful
mountains to be found anywhere. The return to the Lukla
basically follows the upward route but rest days are obviously
not necessary.
On day 21 airplane will take you out of Lukla. |
